Lithopone B301 is a kind of lithopone whose hiding power is better than that of zinc oxide and worse than that of titanium dioxide.It has good heat-resisitance and is insoluble in water.

White powder, is a mixture of zinc sulfide and barium sulfate. Have high whiteness and good covering power. It is called Inorganic white pigment. Widely used as white pigment of plastics such as polyolefin, vinyl resin, ABS resin, polystyrene, polycarbonate, nylon and polyoxymethylene (POM), also for paint and ink . it is use to colourate for rubber products , linoleum, leather, paper, enamel.

8. How lithopone is made?

In a brief text, I suggest you that LITHOPONE is a pigment differing from elder and more classical White powders since the former contains not poisonous lead salts (e.g. Pb(OH)2. 2PbCO3 does) but it exists not in nature.
Lithopone results a solid mixture containing mainly Barium Sulphate and Zinc Sulphide (e.g. they are respectively BaSO4 and ZnS), two white compounds bother.
It results employed to form varnishing products (e.g. white paints) but chemical indutries work not by simple mixing of its constituents because they need high intimate degree.
In order to satisfy these requirements, engineers led an exchange-reaction in a Zinc Sulphate's aqueous solution : here, they load Barium Sulphide which undergoes a late dissolution so reacting against Zinc Sulphate.
Hot conditions are warranted by opportune heat-exchanger : at the reaction-endings, solid mixture are separated by filtering and washed by cold waters in order to harden it.
